For today's Food Friday I want to focus Acai Berries. The acai berry is a reddish, purple fruit that comes from the acai palm tree native to South America. Much of the buzz about acai berries are centered on their high amount of antioxidants. Anthocyanins, a type of antioxidant, are highly concentrated in acai berries and have been shown to have positive effects on the brain as well as anti-inflammatory properties which may be beneficial for good heart health. Want healthier skin? Well if so, acai berries may be the solution. Not only are the oils for acai berries used in several skin care products but when ingested, acai berries can give your skin a healthier glow. You can also use acai berries in the "bedroom" Studies have shown that blood flow in men is positively affected with the consumption of acai berries. This is obviously important since erectile dysfunction is caused by blood flow complications. Lastly, acai berries have powerful detoxification properties. If you have ever tried a body cleanse you may have noticed acai berry juices and drinks as cleanse beverages or cleanse products with acai berries as a major ingredient. This is because of their high fiber content which aids your digestive system in creating regular bowel movements (BM). Regular BMs are important to ensure that your body remains efficient at eliminating waste.
If you want some easy ways to add acai berries to your diet, try adding them to your smoothie recipe, cereal, or oatmeal.
